The Small Business Administration today announced a new loan program, America's Recovery Capital (ARC), to help small businesses which are struggling to make debt payments as a result of the tough economy. The program, announced by SBA administrator Karen Mills, will help small businesses through commercial lenders.

America's Recovery Capital Loans

ARC loans are deferred-payment loans of up to $35,000 available to established, viable, for-profit small businesses that need short-term help to make their principal and interest payments on existing qualifying debt. ARC loans are interest-free to the borrower, 100 percent guaranteed by the SBA, and have no SBA fees associated with them.

More Details on ARC Loans

ARC loans will be disbursed within a period of up to six months and will provide funds to be used for payments of principal and interest for existing, qualifying small business debt including mortgages, term and revolving lines of credit, capital leases, credit card obligations and notes payable to vendors, suppliers and utilities. Repayment will not begin until 12 months after the final disbursement. Borrowers donít have to pay interest on ARC loans. After the 12-month deferral period, borrowers will pay back the loan principal over a period of five years. ARC loans will be made by commercial lenders, not SBA directly

This information was just released today. It looks like you might have to wait up to six months to sign up for one of these loans. I will get more information about availability of these loans.

(1) Ted Murphy says:

$35k in interest payments would support maybe $500k in loan principal. That’s nice, but it seems like a poor solution to the problem of incipient bankruptcy, to me. How about 10 cents on the dollar to creditors? That would work.

(2) Ted Aberle - SBA ARC Report says:

The entire SBA ARC Program is being built wrong wrong wrong.

having said that, the money will go fast- i wouldn’t be surprised if within 3 days of teh 15th when applications are accepted they are already maxed out of the funds.
