The U.S. government has a great website which can provide your small business with information. The website is www.business.gov . Here is some of the information you can find on this web site:

  • Business Startup
    You can find links to information for your state on how to incorporate a business, register a sole proprietorship, or how to obtain an Employer ID Number.

  • Business Taxes
    You can find information on paying state sales taxes and other business taxes.

  • Employment Taxes
    You can find information on reporting hires, and worker's compensation and unemployment tax requirements.

This web site also has links to cities and counties in your state, where you can see where to file a "fictitious name"/dba statement , or to obtain a city license.
