Question: How Can Service Business Owners Get Government Contracts?
Answer:

We think of government contracts as going to contractors or manufacturers, not to service businesses. But can service businesses receive government contracts? Lourdes Martin-Rosa, American Express OPEN Advisor on Government Contracting, replied to this question:

Are service businesses able to get government contracts? Which types of services are most likely to find government contracting opportunities?

Service businesses receive most of the federal government’s contracting dollars. Based on information from the OMB (Office of Management & Budget). Here is the breakdown:

Professional, Administrative & Management Support Services (this industry received the most contracting dollars totaling over $66 Billion in FY 2008)
These types of industries are usually, management consultants, HR services, IT consultants, etc....

Research & Development (this industry received the second most of the government’s budget totaling over $58 Billion)

Next you have Automatic data processing and telecom. services: (totaling over $25 Billion in FY 2008)

Also you have Medical Services: (Totaling over $13 Billion in FY 2008)

And another service is Utilities and Housekeeping Services: (totaling over $12 billion in FY 2008)

So, in answer to the question, it looks like many types of service business are able to get government contracts.
