Three Tips to Avoid an Audit
Three Things You can Do to Avoid an Audit on Your Business

By , About.com Guide

Here are some things you can do when preparing and filing your business tax return to minimize your chances of being audited:

  • Use a CPA or Tax Adviser
Don't try to "go it alone" or guess at what might be an audit trigger. Business taxes are complicated, so it's best to call in a professional.

  • Keep Good Records
Set up your Business Record-keeping system and Payroll system so that all documents are (1) complete and (2) accurate. The better your records, the less likely you are to miss something important.

  • File Promptly
File your business tax returns when they are due, for state and federal income taxes and payroll taxes. Late filing can be a trigger to an audit.
