Are You Running Out of Time for Paying Taxes by April 15?

Sunday April 6, 2008

If you are getting nervous about the April 15 tax deadline for 2007 taxes, you're not alone. Millions of Americans file for an extension, giving them more time to get their taxes together by the extension deadline of October 15. To file for an extension, you need to complete Form 4868 and you need to pay your estimated tax bill, both by the April 15 deadline. You can file electronically and pay by credit card (using tax software), or you send in the form and a check through the mail.

In any case, don't forget to pay, to avoid fines and penalties. And check with your state to find out the requirements for filing an extension for state income taxes.
