Alyssa Gregory, at About.com's Small Business Information site, has some great advice for you if you feel like you're ready to throw in the towel. She includes 5 ways to keep yourself moving, even when you feel like giving up. But if you find you just can't make it, there are some tasks you need to take care of:
1. End your business legal form, by notifying your state. If you are a sole proprietor business, you don't have to notify the state, since you didn't register the business with the state, but all other business types must formally dissolve the business with the state.
2. Tax To-Do list for closing a business. The tax tasks in closing a business are almost as numerous as those for starting a business. Some of the tasks involve notifications, while others are final tax payments that must be made.
3. IRS closing a business guide. You may also find good information, including a checklist on this IRS site.
