When you filed that application for a tax return extension in the Spring, you probably forgot about the due date, or maybe you thought about it occasionally. Now you have less than a month to file your return for your corporation or partnership.
Extension Due Dates
Corporate tax returns were originally due March 15. Extensions are for six months, so the tax return is now due September 15.
Partnership tax returns were originally due April 15. Extensions on partnership returns are for five months, so the tax return is now due September 15.
Multiple-member LLCs file taxes as partnerships, so these tax returns are also due on September 15.
If you have not started on your tax return:
- Contact your tax advisor to review your financial situation and possible tax savings
- Collect documents you will need to file your tax return
- Use the correct income tax form for your business type.
What about small business tax returns (sole proprietorships and single-member LLCs)?
Extensions for sole proprietorship taxes on Schedule C are due October 17 in 2011 (October 15 is a Saturday), along with the owner's personal tax return. Single-member LLCs are treated like sole proprietorships.
